Daily Virals covers what South Korea is talking about today — explained in English, with the context an outside reader actually needs.
Every day, millions of Koreans search for, read and argue about stories that rarely make it into English-language media, or arrive there stripped of context. A new fighter jet, a change to how small businesses close, a drama everyone is watching, a court ruling that reshapes an industry: these stories make sense once you know the institutions, the history and the numbers behind them. That is what we add.
How we work
- We start with what Koreans are reading. Our topics come from what is trending in Korea right now, not from a Western news desk’s idea of what Korea is.
- Every fact is sourced. Each article is checked against at least two independent English-language reports — from outlets such as Yonhap, The Korea Herald, The Korea Times and Korea JoongAng Daily, or from official government and military releases — and the sources are linked at the bottom of every post.
- We explain, not just translate. Korean terms, institutions and won amounts are put in terms an English reader can use.
- We say what we don’t know. If a claim cannot be verified, it does not run.
What we cover
- World & Politics — the Korean Peninsula, the US–Korea alliance, diplomacy and defense
- Economy & Finance — chaebol, markets, small business, housing and the policies behind them
- Tech & AI — semiconductors, AI, startups and Korea’s role in global tech
- Viral & Trending — K-content, culture and the stories Koreans can’t stop sharing
- Health & Life — how people in Korea actually live, work and age
Who runs this
Daily Virals is edited by Brian Kim, who lives in Seoul and runs an education company there. He studied computer science in the United States and has spent years explaining Korea to people who grew up elsewhere — and explaining elsewhere to Koreans. He also teaches, which is probably why every article here ends with its sources.
